It’s Wednesday and you know what that means everyone! It’s World Wednesday here at Rooforia. Pack your bags because we are heading to Kunara, Russia! This part of Russia is located in the Ural Federal District and has a population of almost 4.2 million. This part of Russia is rich in natural resources such as iron, copper, gold and platinum and minerals such as asbestos, gemstones, and talcum. The climate in this part of Russia is continental, and they suffer from long cold winters averaging temperatures from 5 above to 13 below zero. They usually have short warm summers with only the far southeast only seeing highs of near 86, briefly.

The man behind the architecture of this home is Sergey Ivanovich, a blacksmith from Kunara, Russia. His home is rather well known in this country for its Russian folk art architecture. In the year of 1999 it actually won an award for an all-Russian art competition of amateur wooden architecture.

Sergey got married and started living in his Grandfathers old house in 1951. His Grandfathers home was in poor shape and was badly in need of repair. Since he was busy for much of the day with his blacksmithing business he spent most of his off hours working on his home until midnight and woke up early in the morning before work to work on it as well.

Now that you have a little history behind the country he was born in and a little history about the home, let’s take a look at some photos!
