Margaret Garner Residence
It was a normal late winter day, until the snow melted and the Elkhorn River began to rise. Little did Margaret know the river would change the course of her life this year. The 2019 Winter Season featured the snowiest winters in a very long time. It’s been her home for most of her life. She called it her community, she grew up here. The neighborhood in Valley close to the river had several families with young kids. But as soon as the snow melted, and the rain began to fall, everything changed abruptly. Margaret was trapped in her home and did not know if she would make it out alive. But she was rescued. The neighborhood was never the same afterwards. A lot of families moved away but Margaret calls this place her home. We were happy to help Margaret out with a free roof to help her get back on her feet again.
Combs Family
Mr. & Mrs. Combs have lived in their home since it was built in the 70's. A true labor of love, Mr. Combs, a Vietnam War veteran, built it himself and has always taken great pride in keeping it in tip top shape. Unfortunately this year Mr. Combs relocated to a nursing home in order to receive the care he needs. Mrs. Combs is a recent retiree of OPS and was worried how to afford a much needed roof replacement. Rebuilding Together Omaha (now Project Houseworks) nominated the Combs family and we're so glad they did. There couldn't be a more deserving and gracious family! A special thanks to Owen's Corning and ABC Supply Lincoln for their generous contributions to provide the Combs Family with a special hail resistant roof, making sure this is the last roof replacement they'll need!
