Fireworks and Your Roof

Fireworks have been a part of Americans celebrating since the first fourth of July celebration. Since many of us will be celebrating the fourth of July at home this year, let’s make sure that our homes are as safe as can be from possible firework damage.

In general, the materials that modern roofs use, like metal roofing or asphalt shingles are created to be fire resistant, but the materials under them are often not fireproof. So, it is important to check for missing shingles or tiles on your roof in order to prevent more damage from occurring.

It is also important to make sure that your roof is free of debris like sticks or leaves that may be caught on your roof or in your gutters, these sticks and leaves can act like kindling and make that small spark from a firework grow into a house fire. And don’t forget the trees! Make sure to trim back the tree branches that are low hanging near your roof.

And finally, if you or your family are planning on setting off fireworks this fourth of July, make sure that the fireworks are aimed away from the house or people watching and always make sure that the firework is set on a stable and flat surface.

Have a safe and happy Fourth of July!
